An Exclusive Interview with Harrison Harry

Harrison Beach Hotel: Thanks for taking the time to speak with us today Harrison Harry!

HH: Oh you’re very welcome

Harrison Beach Hotel: Like so many others, I imagine you’ve been impacted this last year by the global pandemic as well?

HH: Absolutely, and you know at first it was great. There were far less people around and as a natural introvert, I found this quite relaxing. But as the year wore on I became more and more lonely which is why with spring here and summer quickly approaching I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and connect with the locals of Harrison Beach and Harrison Hot Springs.

Harrison Beach Hotel: How did you pass the time on your own in the forest?

HH: Well I think it’s probably obvious, but I love hiking and it’s during my hikes where people usually snap a picture of me. A little known fact, however, is that I also love woodworking. I’ve crafted all my own bowls and plates.

Harrison Beach Hotel: Wow, that’s amazing! So now that you’re emerging from the forest what are you most looking forward to doing?

HH: I think like a lot of people I’ll be looking forward to some time on Harrison Beach, there’s really no better place to be during the summer. Naturally, I’ll spend a lot of time in the Coastal Mountain Range – which I call home – and I’m looking forward to a dip in Harrison Hot Springs later this summer.

Harrison Beach Hotel: We’d be remiss if we didn’t touch briefly on your celebrity status here in Harrison. Would you mind walking us through how that happened and how you feel about it?

HH: Well honestly to call myself a celebrity isn’t completely fair. My entire family has been photographed in these parts for more than 200 years. My great-great-great Grandpa’s encounter with British Explorer David Thompson is what really alerted everyone to my family’s presence here. But even long before that we had a wonderful relationship with the Sts’Ailes peoples of this area, I’m humbled to say they have revered us as supernatural beings with great power that oversee the land and we have done our best to maintain our relationship for decades.

At first, we were resistant to our celebrity status, and even now I wouldn’t say we love it, but we’re gradually starting to come to terms with it and certainly, I’ve taken a role as the main spokesperson.

Harrison Beach Hotel: Harrison Hot Springs has certainly embraced you and the attention that comes along with it. Between trekking the “Sasquatch Trail,” to snapping pictures with statues erected in your honour, it seems Harry Mania has taken over our beach town.

HH: Haha I don’t know about “Harry Mania,” but it’s very flattering to have people creating statues and hikes based on me. I’ve heard there’s even a local museum showcasing a section on me.
